Hacker school and Tech Support (oct 1, 2006 – oct 1, 2007)
Description:
A stranger sees me struggling to get my code to compile and tells me about Braindump (https://braindump.cat.pdx.edu/braindump/) at the Maseeh College of Engineering and Computer Science where they train volunteers and staff to become members of TheCAT (The Computer Action Team).
I join TheCAT and spend 4 hours every Friday night learning about Linux, system administration, networking, and scripting.
I feel like a hacker.
I volunteer at the engineering school's front desk. I start to stress because I have no money and then a friend from TheCAT helps me out by referring me for an IT staff job at the college. I work under the IT Director and become his assistant during the development of PSU's Odin Account Manager.
I work for a while, then take a break from school and become a contractor.
