Salem Witch Trials (feb 1, 1692 – may 1, 1693)
Description:
The investigations and prosecutions of over 200 people in colonial Massachusetts, starting in Salem, which resulted in the hangings of 19 people. While victims and/or their families eventually were given compensation, the effects of the loss of innocent lives and the strain placed upon the community were not forgotten. Today, this event is remembered when we think of the word "witch hunt".
