The Great Depression (oct 29, 1929 – jan 31, 1941)

Description:

A worldwide economic depression, beginning in the U.S. following economic recession and the catastrophic stock market crash in October of 1929. A series of bank failures plagued the nation, leaving people to lose the entirety of their savings. The situation became exacerbated by the subsequent dust bowl and drought conditions of the 30s, throwing people further into poverty. As issues such as overcrowding in cities, homelessness, unemployment, and class separation made themselves apparent, existing social tensions (for example, regarding race) intensified, and the rates in which children entered custodial institutions rapidly increased, along with other statistics such as suicides.
