Description:
Literature of this period was written in Old English and marks the beginning of what is considered British literature. Roughly synonymous with the Dark Ages or Early Middle Ages, this is when a common Germanic cultural identity formed in Britain as a result of invasion and settlement of Germanic tribes after the end of Roman rule in Britain.
