Description: Two battles fought eighteen days apart. British general had a victory over Americans the first battle but suffered greatly (troop strength had been weakened). When Burgoyne attacked the second battle he was defeated and surrendered.
Location: Stillwater, New York
Significance: Major turning point of the revolutionary war
Result: The French government formally recognized the colonist’s cause and entered the war as their ally
Effect on war: Colonists had a strong ally against the British, more power
