Cnut the Great (dec 1, 1016 – nov 12, 1035)
Description:
Following the decisive Battle of Assandun on 18 October 18, 1016, King Edmund signed a treaty with Cnut in which all of England except for Wessex would be controlled by Cnut. Edmund died on November 30, leaving Cnut as ruler of the whole kingdom. Edmund's sons Edgar Aetheling the Exile and Edmund Aetheling were sent to Hungary to the court of St. Stephen, where they found shelter. Cnut married Aethelred's widow Emma.
