Description:
Bleeding Kansas was a series of violent civil confrontations which emerged from a political and ideological debate over the legality of slavery in the proposed state (then a territory) of Kansas. Many people consider fighting during the Bleeding Kansas period to the first battles of the Civil War, considering slavery and anti-slavery forces fought over prolonged periods of time for the first time in the United States.
