Trail of Tears
1831 – 1850 (jan 1, 1831 – jan 1, 1850)
Description:
The Trail of Tears is a term used to refer to the series of forced relocation of numerous Native American tribes from their resource-rich, ancestral homelands to the west of the country (usually a distinction made by the Mississippi River). Relocating Natives suffered many conditions on the way to their reserves, with many deaths occurring before the destination was even reached. Over 4,000 Cherokees died on the Trail of Tears.
