Second Mexican Civil War (oct 21, 1865 – may 7, 1867)

Description:

Following the establishment of the Second Mexican Empire, a US funded liberal resistance popped up in the North. While only controlling a portion of the country in 1865, the resistance held on to many economically powerful areas such as Zacatecas and northern Verecruz.

However, after less than two years France had made major gains and was able to garner more and more support for their cause. With major French support to the Confederate States, the war was looking like the French would win by attrition. However, following the capture and execution of Benito Juárez, the resistance fell apart and the two sides agreed to make peace.
