Description:
After Kiyomori's death, the Taira and Minamoto clans fought a deciding war for supremacy. By the end of the war, the Minamoto defeated the Taira, and Minamoto Yoritomo succeeded as the leader of Japan. After eliminating all of his potential enemies, he was appointed Shogun (highest military officer) and established a new system of government in his home city Kamakura.The shogun stayed in Kamakura without much power. The emperor and imperial court were more culturally than politically influential. Stewards and constables controlled the provinces tightly. The Hojo regents were able to bring several decades of peace and economic expansion.
The Hojo regents were family of Yoritomo's wife.
