Description:
Toyotomi Hideyoshi emerged as a second powerful leader after Nobunaga's death. He was of peasant origins who rose to become Nobunaga's chief general.
He didn't claim the title of shogun but instead had himself declared regent to the emperor.
When he died in 1598, he left a young son as an heir and a group of 5 powerful daimyo as collective regents, though they soon divided among themselves.
