Military coup d’etat ( 1961 May 16 )

The military coup means a sudden overthrow of the government by the military. On May 16th General Park Chung Hee and his allies / troops attacked the government taking over the possession. He knew that the government was weak so he overtook the government and wanted to develop South Korea into a stronger country. In the process of taking over the government he killed everyone who came in the way. Park Chung Hee took possess of the government for 18 years. As he was in possession many people tried to rebel against him and protested but everytime they did, Park Chung Hee led the army and fought them back with an army. And at the end he was assassinated by one of his close friend Kim Jae Gyu. Throughout his 18 years of possession he had made Korea’s economic develop and improve rapidly. He was helpful to the nation but there were too many lives he has killed. Although he did good to the country the process was bad and it is still debatable about whether what he did was right or wrong. Fun fact about him is that his daughter became Korea’s first female president in 2012.
