English Civil War (aug 2, 1642 – sep 28, 1651)
Description:
Conflicts between Charles I and parliament over how English government should be run. It soon became a class war between the Royalists and Parliamentarians.
Supporters of the King were the Royalists, seen by Parliamentarians as "Cavaliers/Roundheads" who were dissolute, seemed foreign, and prone to violence.
Supporters of Parliament were seen as low-status, lumpen townsmen, with little experience in judgement.
Resulted in Parliamentarian victory and Royalist forces defeated until the reign of Cromwell.
