Description:
Following the deaths of Cleopatra and Caesarion, Augustus brings Egypt under direct imperial control as a crown province and establishes the unique "praefectus augustalis" for the region, as opposed to the traditional senatorial governor system in other Roman provinces.
Gaius Cornelius Gallus (c. 70 BC – 26 BC) is named the first prefect of Egypt and begins by subduing Upper Egypt.
