Explorer James Cook (jan 1, 1728 – jan 1, 1779)
Description:
Of particular note is his 1768 expedition to the southern oceans, to observe and chart the transit of Venus. Cook was killed by Hawaiian natives in 1779, en route to England after an expedition to the northwest coast of North America.
