Stalemate / Limited War / Chinese Intervention / Harry Truman / Insubordination / Declaration of War (or lack thereof) (nov 25, 1950 – jul 11, 1953)
Description:
Forced by the Chinese - Harry Truman and General Douglas MacArthur disagree on how to handle the Chinese presence. MacArthur wanted a war but Truman, based on MacArthur's assurance of no Chinese intervention, Truman declared limited war. The stalemate was between Truman and MacArthur. Since MacArthur was unable to convince Truman to wage war, he wrote a letter to the House Republican leader complaining the president's policies. Once the letter got out into the public's hands, Truman fired MacArthur for insubordination. There was no victory in the Korean War. What became a lasting result is that Truman committed U.S. troops to battle without a congressional declaration of war.
