Warren Hastings (mar 4, 1772 – jan 4, 1784)
Description:
He was the first Governor of the Presidency of Fort William (Bengal), the head of the Supreme Council of Bengal, and thereby the first de facto Governor-General of India from 1772 to 1785.
He loved Indo-Persian Culture and encouraged scholarship in studying these languages. Under him - Nathaniel Halhed composed 'A code of Gentoo laws' 1776, and 'Bengali Grammar' in 1778, and Charles Wilkins produced the 'Sanskrit Grammar' in 1778
