The Great Awakening (jan 1, 1730 – jan 1, 1770)

Description:

Significance: The start of The American Revolution. Change to a large religious influence over peoples daily lives. Led to more religious intolerance and division among branches in Christianity.
Cause: Jonathan Edwards saw that people were becoming less interested in religion and started to question religion and God, which caused Edwards then gave a passionate speech about how the people were sinning because of these thoughts, sparking everyone's interest, once again, in religion.
Effect: With this new era of The Great Awakening, more people started to question authority, giving the colonists the change in attitude and even more reason to question Britain.
