Virginia Governorship (jun 1, 1779 – jun 3, 1781)

Description:

Age: 36--38

From June 1st, 1779, to June 3rd, 1781, T.J. served as governor of Virginia. T.J.'s election to the governorship comes in a very tempestuous time as the American Revolution kicks into full gear. Throughout this period, Virginia is plagued with the presence of British troops towards her south and the British navy just off her shores. In fact, British troops even captured the Virginian capital of Richmond and the temporary capital of Charlottesville in two of their sieges.
Nevertheless, during this time, T.J. proposed and enacted various laws ranging from education, religious freedom, inheritance laws, and abolition laws to continue his pursuit to turn Virginia into the paradigm of the ideal republican society.
