"[...] the night of his death [he] was last seen a few hours after getting off work" (DS 2/15/80).

"PALM SPRINGS -- The sheriff's department is asking for the help of local residents who may have seen a young hitchhiker accept a ride on the day he was murdered. [...] [He] was last seen alive here Feb. 1 [1980]. [...] On Feb. 1, Moore was probably hitchhiking west, possibly to visit his mother in Beaumont or toward the Los Angeles beach area" (DS 2/19/80).

"James Sean Moore, a hitchhiker who was strangled Feb. 1, [1980,] may have accepted a ride from his killer in the Palm Springs area. Sheriff Det. Al Hearn is asking anyone who saw Moore accept a ride Feb. 1 to call him" (DS 2/19/80).
