"Disappeared at a Jethro Tull rock concert at the Long Beach Sports Arena on Nov. 14 [1979]" (SDUT 12/23/79).

"'Walter went to the concert in Long Beach,' Tanner's mother told a reporter yesterday by phone. 'It was Jethro Tull, the night of Nov. 14 [1979], at the Sport Arena. He went with friends, but they could not get all the seats together. The driver, Charlie, sat with a friend in one section and Walter and a boy named Jack had tickets together. But Jack sold his ticket to a stranger.'
'Walter was supposed to meet Charlie back at the car when it was over, but they were there until 2am and he didn't come back. We don't know where he went'" (SDUT 12/12/79).

"In the early evening hours of Nov. 14 [1979], Wally Tanner left his home in Orange to attend a Jethro Tull concert at the Long Beach Sports Arena. [...] Wally rode to the concert with friends, but failed to meet them after the performance. [...] It is not known whether Wally actually saw Jethro Tull in concert. While police are certain he reached the Sports Arena, they have not been able to trace his movements afterward. Wally was to have attended the concert with a friend who sold his ticket to a stranger at the last minute. The group with which Wally rode to the concert had seats elsewhere and they did not see him again after he left them" (SDUT 1/7/80).
