Description:
"Hikers found a pair of sawed-off human legs in Box Canyon near Mecca June 12 [1975]. The legs, the coroner said, were partially sawed, then broken off just below the kneecap. The legs may have been buried for as long as a year, the coroner's spokesman said, adding that they may have belonged to a young man. A comprehensive search by detectives with a skiploader the next day did not uncover any other parts of the body. No other parts of the body have been located" (TDS 5/12/76).
