Description:

Sherman’s March to the Sea, which took place from November 15 to December 21 1864, involved moving troops from Atlanta to Savannah. New technology includes pontoon trains and bridges which were used to transport troops and materials and help them cross rivers. The outcome of this event was a Union victory and destruction of tons of Confederate infrastructure. This event impacted the outcome of the Civil War as it destroyed Southern morale and quickened the end of the war. This event was important as it introduced the strategy of “Total War” which allowed the North to cripple the South’s morale and economy.
