Battle of Vicksburg (may 18, 1863 – jul 4, 1863)

Description:

The Battle of Vicksburg, which took place from May 18th to July 4th, 1863, in Vicksburg Mississippi, resulted from the Anaconda Plan to split the Confederacy in half through the Mississippi River. New technology used include new “Sap Rollers,” which were cylinders filled with cotton that could provide cover during Trench Warfare. Another new piece of technology were new mortar boats and steam-powered ironclad warships which provided supporting firepower for the Union during the battle. Eventually, the battle resulted in a decisive Union victory and the Confederacy was successfully split into two through the Mississippi River. This event impacted the outcome of the war as it severely weakend the Confederacy by cutting the Confederate States into 2 sections which would restrict trade and travel. The battle was important as it achieved the goal of the Anaconda Plan and weakened the Confederacy, bringing the Union closer to victory.
