Massachusetts 54th Regiment (mar 13, 1863 – aug 20, 1865)

Description:

The Massachusetts 54th Regiment was created in 1853 as a chance for African Americans to earn their freedom and prove themselves. The regiment used advanced rifles with greater range and accuracy for the time. The outcome of the 54th Regiment helped prove the bravery and courage of African Americans in battle. This affected the outcome of the war as they significantly helped the Union win the Civil War while helping win victories, such as at Fort Wagner. This was important as it provided an entryway for African Americans to enter society as new Freedmen, and also provided an opportunity for African Americans to showcase their bravery and courage in battle.
