Description:
The Peninsula Campaign took place in Virginia in 1862, when General George McClellan attempted to capture the Confederate capital of Richmond. Railroads, telegraphs, and ironclad warships were used extensively during the Peninsula Campaign. Eventually, the Confederates successfully defeated McClellan. This event affected the outcome of the war by preventing the Union from ending it quickly and by positively impacting Robert E. Lee’s reputation. This event was important because it demonstrated the Confederacy’s ability to defend itself against a large Union force.
