Ahad Ha’am (jan 1, 1856 – jan 1, 1927)
Description:
Ahad Ha’am, born Asher Ginsberg, founded Cultural Zionism. He believed that Zionism should not only be about creating a state, but also about reviving Jewish culture, Hebrew language, education, and national identity.
For him, the Land of Israel should become a spiritual and cultural center for the Jewish people, even before it became a political state. He often criticized Herzl’s political approach because he thought the Jewish people needed cultural renewal first.
