Description:
Eleazar ben Yair was the leader of the Jewish rebels at Masada after the fall of Jerusalem. He belonged to the Sicarii, a radical anti-Roman group connected to the wider Jewish resistance movement.
He is remembered as the final leader of Jewish resistance during the First Jewish–Roman War. Masada became one of the strongest symbols of Jewish resistance, survival, and refusal to submit to Roman rule.
