Simon bar Giora (jan 1, 35 – jan 1, 70)
Description:
Simon bar Giora was one of the most powerful Jewish commanders during the First Jewish–Roman War. He gathered a large fighting force and eventually entered Jerusalem, where he became a major rival to John of Giscala and other rebel leaders.
He is important because he was one of the last major leaders defending Jerusalem before the city fell to Rome in 70 AD. After the Roman victory, he was taken to Rome as a symbol of the defeated revolt.
