Eleazar ben Simon was one of the major Jewish rebel leaders during the First Jewish–Roman War. He became especially important in Jerusalem after the revolt began in 66 AD, leading one of the Zealot factions that resisted Roman control.

He is remembered as part of the internal leadership struggle inside Jerusalem during the final years before the city fell in 70 AD. His role shows how the revolt was not only a war against Rome, but also a period of deep division among Jewish rebel groups.
