Flavius Josephus (jan 1, 37 – jan 1, 100)
Description:
Flavius Josephus was a Jewish historian from the Second Temple period who lived through the First Jewish–Roman War. He originally fought against Rome in Galilee but later surrendered and became connected to the Roman imperial court.
His writings, especially The Jewish War and Antiquities of the Jews, are among the most important sources for the history of the Hasmoneans, Herod, Roman Judea, Jewish sects, and the destruction of the Second Temple in 70 AD. Because of him, we know many details about Jewish life and politics during the late Second Temple period.
