Magen Avraham (jan 1, 1635 – jan 1, 1682)
Description:
Rabbi Avraham Abele Gombiner, known as the Magen Avraham, was one of the most important halakhic authorities of the 17th century. His commentary on Orach Chaim, the section of the Shulchan Aruch dealing with daily Jewish life, prayer, Shabbat, and holidays, became one of the central works of practical Jewish law.
His importance comes from the massive influence his rulings had on later halakhic decision-making. The Mishnah Berurah, one of the most widely studied modern halakhic works, constantly discusses and builds on the Magen Avraham.
