Rav Kook (jan 1, 1865 – jan 1, 1935)
Description:
Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak HaKohen Kook was one of the most original Jewish thinkers of the modern period. He combined deep Torah scholarship, Kabbalah, philosophy, poetry, and a powerful vision of Jewish national revival. He saw the return to the Land of Israel as part of a larger spiritual process in Jewish history.
His importance comes from shaping religious Zionist thought. He gave religious meaning to the modern return to Zion and became one of the central rabbinic voices connecting Torah, the Land of Israel, the Jewish people, and redemption.
