Description:
The Chatam Sofer was one of the leading rabbis of Central Europe and one of the most important halakhic authorities of the modern period. He led the great yeshiva of Pressburg and wrote influential responsa on Jewish law, community life, and religious practice.
He became especially important during the rise of modernity and religious reform movements. His approach strongly defended traditional halakhah and helped shape Orthodox Judaism in Europe.
