The Rashbatz was a major rabbi, philosopher, doctor, and halakhic authority. He was born in Spain but fled to North Africa after the persecutions of 1391. In Algiers, he became one of the most important Jewish leaders of his generation.He represents the shift of Jewish scholarship from Spain to North Africa before the Spanish Expulsion.
