(Rif) Rabbi Yitzḥak Alfasi (jan 1, 1013 – jan 1, 1103)
Description:
The Rif was one of the greatest early halakhic authorities of the Rishonim. His major work, often called the Halakhot HaRif, summarized the practical legal conclusions of the Talmud. He focused on what the final law should be, not every debate inside the Gemara.
For your timeline, the Rif is important because he helped move Jewish law from Talmudic discussion into organized legal decision-making. His work strongly influenced later authorities, especially the Rambam and the Shulchan Aruch.
