Amram Gaon (jan 1, 810 – jan 1, 875)
Description:
Amram Gaon was the Gaon of Sura and is best known for Seder Rav Amram Gaon, one of the earliest organized Jewish prayer books. He wrote it in response to a request from the Jewish community of Spain, showing how far the authority of the Babylonian academies reached.
He is important because he helped shape the structure of Jewish prayer. His siddur influenced later Jewish liturgy and shows how the Geonim connected communities across Babylonia, North Africa, Spain, and beyond.
