Achai Gaon (jan 1, 680 – jan 1, 761)

Description:

Achai Gaon, also known as Aḥa of Shabḥa, is famous for the She’iltot, one of the earliest major post-Talmudic works. Although he is often called “Gaon,” he may not have held the official office of Gaon in the same way as the heads of Sura and Pumbedita.

His work became extremely important in Jewish legal and homiletic literature. He represents the spread of Geonic Torah beyond the academies into organized writings for wider Jewish communities.
