Abaye (jan 1, 280 – jan 1, 339)
Description:
Abaye was one of the greatest Babylonian Amoraim and was known for deep legal analysis. He was raised in the house of Rabbah and became a leading figure in the academy of Pumbedita.
His debates with Rava are some of the most important in the Babylonian Talmud. Usually the law follows Rava over Abaye, but there are famous exceptions known by the acronym YAL KGM.
