Zadok (Hight Priest) (jan 1, 969 BC – jan 1, 940 BC)
Description:
Zadok was a priest during King David’s reign and remained loyal during the crisis of Absalom and later during Adonijah’s attempt to take the throne. He supported Solomon, and after Solomon removed Abiathar, Zadok became the main High Priest. From a Jewish perspective, Zadok is extremely important because the priesthood returned to the line of Eleazar/Phinehas, and later legitimate Temple priests were often called Zadokites. His rise marks the beginning of the priestly line that served in Solomon’s Temple.
