Rabbi Yochanan was the leading Amora in the Land of Israel and one of the central figures behind the Jerusalem Talmud tradition. He led the academy in Tiberias.He helped transmit and organize the teachings of earlier sages after the Mishnah. His discussions with Resh Lakish are among the most famous partnerships in rabbinic literature.
