(Rambam) Moshé ben Maimón (jan 1, 1138 – jan 1, 1204)

Description:

Maimonides, also known as Rambam — Rabbi Moshe ben Maimon — was one of the greatest Jewish sages, philosophers, legal authorities, and physicians of the medieval period. He was born in Córdoba, Spain, but his family fled persecution and eventually settled in Egypt. There, he became a major leader of the Jewish community and also served as a physician in the Muslim court.

From a Jewish perspective, Rambam is one of the most important figures after the Talmud. His major works include the Mishneh Torah, a complete organized code of Jewish law, and The Guide for the Perplexed, which explains Judaism through philosophy and reason. He also formulated the famous Thirteen Principles of Faith. Rambam’s influence on Jewish law, theology, philosophy, and learning is enormous, and he remains one of the central figures of Jewish intellectual history.
