Description:
Shimon Peres served as prime minister in the national unity government of the 1980s. He was part of the Labor movement and was known for diplomacy, defense planning, and long-term strategic thinking. During his first term, Israel faced serious economic inflation, and his government helped stabilize the economy.
Peres also withdrew Israeli forces from much of Lebanon into a security zone. He later became one of the major architects of the Oslo peace process. In the timeline, Peres represents the diplomatic and visionary side of Israeli leadership.
