Yitzhak Shamir (jan 1, 1983 – jan 1, 1984)
Description:
Yitzhak Shamir was a former Lehi underground leader and later a Likud prime minister. He was known for being tough, cautious, and deeply skeptical of territorial compromise. He first became prime minister after Begin resigned, then returned again after the national unity government rotation with Shimon Peres.
Shamir led Israel during the First Intifada and the Gulf War, when Iraq fired missiles at Israel. He also oversaw major immigration waves, especially Jews from the Soviet Union. From a Jewish perspective, his leadership emphasized survival, patience, and holding firm under pressure.
