Yitzhak Rabin (jan 1, 1974 – jan 1, 1977)
Description:
Yitzhak Rabin first became prime minister in 1974, after Golda Meir resigned. He had been IDF Chief of Staff during the Six-Day War and was seen as a serious security figure. His first term dealt with the aftermath of the Yom Kippur War, economic problems, and ongoing terrorism.
A major event of his first term was the Entebbe rescue operation in 1976, when Israeli commandos rescued hostages in Uganda. Rabin’s first government ended after political controversy, but he would later return as one of Israel’s most important leaders.
