Philip the Tetrarch (northeast territories) (jan 1, 4 BC – jan 1, 34)
Description:
Philip, son of Herod the Great, ruled territories northeast of the Sea of Galilee from 4 BCE–34 CE. His lands included areas such as Iturea, Trachonitis, and nearby regions. He founded or rebuilt cities like Caesarea Philippi and Bethsaida-Julias.
Compared with other Herodian rulers, Philip is usually remembered as more stable and less violent. His rule was mostly outside the main Jewish centers of Judea and Jerusalem, but he was still part of the broader Herodian system that kept the region tied closely to Rome.
