Description:

Nehemiah was a Jewish official in the Persian court who became governor of Judah and led the rebuilding of Jerusalem’s walls. He faced opposition from surrounding groups, including Sanballat and Tobiah, but completed the wall and strengthened Jerusalem’s security. Nehemiah also worked with Ezra to renew the covenant, enforce Shabbat observance, oppose exploitation of the poor, and rebuild Jewish communal life. From a Jewish perspective, he represents practical leadership, courage, and the physical restoration of Jerusalem after exile.
