King Ahab (Israel) (jan 1, 874 BC – jan 1, 853 BC)
Description:
Son of Omri, Ahab expanded Israel’s political power and formed a major alliance with Sidon by marrying Jezebel. However, this brought organized Baal worship into Israel at a national level, making his reign one of the most spiritually corrupt. He was fiercely opposed by the prophet Elijah, whose confrontation with the prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel became a defining moment. Ahab showed moments of humility (like after Naboth’s vineyard incident), but ultimately did not change direction. He ignored prophetic warnings from Micaiah and was killed in battle exactly as foretold.
