Prophet Samuel (jan 1, 1076 BC – jan 1, 1010 BC)

Description:

Samuel is considered the last and greatest of the judges, as well as a major prophet who guided Israel during a critical transition period. Raised under Eli at Shiloh, he became known for faithfully delivering God’s word and leading the people spiritually. He helped bring victory over the Philistines and called Israel back to proper worship, establishing strong national and religious unity.

One of Samuel’s most significant accomplishments was anointing the first kings of Israel, including Saul and later David, marking the transition from judges to monarchy. However, he was initially resistant to the idea of a king, viewing it as a rejection of God’s direct rule, though he ultimately obeyed God’s command.

A notable flaw in his leadership was that his sons did not follow his ways and were corrupt, which contributed to the people demanding a king in the first place. Despite this, Samuel himself is portrayed as faithful, obedient, and deeply committed to God, making him one of the most respected figures in the Hebrew Bible.
