1.) Meeting of the Estates General (may 4, 1789 – may 5, 1789)
Description:
An assembly of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd estates (the social classes), where all estates had a single vote on different matters. Because of this, the 1st and 2nd estates could outvote the 3rd, and there was nothing they could do about it. This was important because it angered the 3rd estate and made them want to form the National Assembly in order to break away from the 1st and 2nd estates.
